Chemical speciation and electronic structure with
X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS)

The QuantumLeap is the first laboratory X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) with synchrotron-like performance to provide critical information on oxidation states, bond lengths and interatomic distances, electron symmetry, and more. Specific performance parameters:

  • XANES can be provided at sub-eV energy resolution on the range of minutes to an hour

  • EXAFS at high throughput in seconds to minutes

  • Wide energy coverage range for analysis of a broad range of elements

  • MicroXANES at 100 micron spot size

The system enables cutting-edge research, including:

  • Catalysts: chemical states of oxides, nitrides, and carbides; size of clusters

  • Batteries/fuel cells/solar cells: oxidation state of transition metals (e.g. in lithium ion batteries) as a function of charge and discharge cycles

  • Nanoparticles: characterization of structure, size, and composition
